To make a day of it

Château d'Hauterive stands in Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century, second half of the 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched above Issoire, the Château d'Hauterive overlooks the Limagne plain, its origins going back to the 17th century. Built as a country retreat, the estate has kept its original layout: main house, chapel, outbuildings and terraced gardens form a coherent whole that has changed little since the late 18th century. Visitors can see a kitchen garden designed to double as an ornamental garden, along with groves, hornbeam walks and the working buildings of the estate, a bread oven, a wine press room, a cellar and an ice house.
