To make a day of it
Stecklenburg stands in Thale (Landkreis Harz), in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 10th century. No visits are on record for this building.
The Stecklenburg is a ruined hilltop castle standing on a spur of the Ramberg massif, above the village of Stecklenberg in the eastern Harz. Built in the 11th century on the remains of an earlier stronghold, it was destroyed in a battle during the following century and later rebuilt. What remains today are sections of the residential walls and the stump of the keep. A few hundred metres away lie the ruins of Lauenburg Castle, an easy addition to the same walk.
