Schweinsburg Castle stands on the Pleiße river in the municipality of Neukirchen/Pleiße in Saxony, on the site of a medieval stronghold founded in the 12th century under the name Burg Crimmitschau. Parts of this moated fortification survive within the present complex, which was reshaped into a baroque schloss and later given a neobaroque facelift. The building passed through very different roles over time, from noble residence to a party school during the GDR era, and today its lower section houses a hotel. Visitors come mainly for the layered architecture rather than for a conventional museum tour.
