To make a day of it

Schloss Osterlant stands in Oschatz (Landkreis Nordsachsen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. No visits are on record for this building.

West of Oschatz, in a small wood beside a pond, two tall sections of wall rise from the ruins of Schloss Osterlant, remains of an early 13th century Gothic building. Excavations carried out in 1991 and 1992 uncovered the complete layout of a square structure some 44 metres on each side, built around a courtyard where two oak trees now grow. A stone circle on the ground marks the site of an unusual underground water chamber, which was backfilled after its discovery for safety reasons. Visitors come here for the rarity of the structure and the quiet of the wooded setting, since only the walls survive.
