Schloss Scharfenberg stands in Klipphausen (Landkreis Meißen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Scharfenberg sits on a rocky spur above the Elbe valley, between Dresden and Meissen. Built around 1200 during the eastward medieval German settlement, it retains sections of its original curtain wall and a round keep uncovered by excavation. Owned by the von Miltitz family for five centuries, it became an early 19th century gathering place for Romantic writers such as E.T.A. Hoffmann and a favourite subject of the painter Caspar David Friedrich. Restored in the early 2000s, it now combines a hotel with cultural events.
