Mylau Castle rises on a rocky spur above Reichenbach im Vogtland, overlooking the Göltzsch river in Saxony. Founded around 1180 during the reign of Emperor Barbarossa, it ranks among the best-preserved medieval strongholds in the region, crowned by a 27-metre Romanesque keep. Over the centuries the fortress evolved into a noble residence, then a town hall and museum, a layered history still visible in its successive courtyards and mixed architecture. Parking: There are NO parking facilities directly at the castle or in front of the castle gate. Please use the car parks at the foot of the castle (Markt, at the Kirche, Burgstraße, Friedenshain).

The museum is not fully accessible, as it is housed in a medieval castle with various staircases and passageways. Part of the museum can be reached by wheelchair users and people with severe mobility impairments using a stair-climbing device. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available at the castle (not in the museum!). Two disabled parking spaces are provided directly at the castle (to the left in front of the castle gate).
