Schloss Schleinitz stands in Nossen (Landkreis Meißen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 16th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Schleinitz is a former moated castle in late Gothic and Renaissance style, standing in the Ketzerbach valley near Nossen in Saxony. Its two round towers, joined by a defensive wall, frame a courtyard that still recalls the earlier fortified site. The older left wing holds a vaulted chapel from the early sixteenth century, while the right wing, added during the Renaissance, displays a scrolled gable typical of that period's architectural shift. The estate is also remembered for a painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder, rediscovered here in 1904 and now kept in Dresden.
What to know
- The castle is best approached from the outside and from the courtyard set between the two round towers.
- That courtyard is reached by the stone bridge built in 1781, which crosses the former moat.
- The former orangery, once home to an extensive library, now serves as a private residence and is not open to visitors.
