Burg Neuenstein rises on a 343-metre hilltop in the Knüll range, in the village of Saasen that gave the surrounding municipality its name. Built around the mid-13th century by the counts of Wallenstein, it lost its fortifications in the 18th century but still retains its 28-metre keep, with walls up to two metres thick. The former hall, reworked into a hunting residence in the 17th century, now houses a conference centre and the offices of the Knüll nature park.
