To make a day of it
Burgruine Wallenstein stands in Knüllwald (Schwalm-Eder-Kreis), in Hesse, Germany. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Burgruine Wallenstein stands on a rocky spur of the Knüll hills above a side valley of the Efze, in the municipality of Knüllwald in Hesse. Probably built in the 12th century by Hersfeld Abbey to guard the western edge of its territory, it gave its name to the Wallenstein family before being destroyed by imperial Croatian troops during the Thirty Years' War. What remains today is chiefly the massive curtain wall known as the 'Hoher Mantel' and a round stair tower, now converted into a lookout point. Restored after the former Fritzlar-Homberg district acquired it in 1957, the site is freely accessible as a walking destination.
