To make a day of it

Burg Efferen stands in Efferen (Rhein-Erft-Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Efferen stands in the Efferen district of Hürth, beside the now culverted Duffesbach that once fed its moat. Its Gothic gate tower, built in the late 14th century by the Cologne-based Overstolz family, ranks among the oldest structures in the city. The present complex, reshaped in Baroque style in 1769 by master builder Christian Birkenhus for Carl Franz von Bourscheidt, combines this medieval remnant with a manor house and farm buildings still used for agriculture. The coats of arms of the Bourscheidt and Fürstenberg families can be seen carved on the manor house facade.

What to know
