Schloss Bedburg stands in Bedburg (Rhein-Erft-Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Bedburg stands on the site of a medieval stronghold first recorded in the 12th century, in the marshy lowlands of the Erft valley. Destroyed and rebuilt more than once over the centuries, it still shows, in its passage from a Burg to a Schloss, two round towers, remnants of tuff stone masonry and Renaissance arcades opening onto the inner courtyard. The building seen today reflects successive building phases from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance through the 19th and 20th centuries.
What to know
- The site was destroyed and rebuilt several times, notably in 1278 and again during the Cologne War of 1584.
- The chapel and the 19th century Ritterakademie wing were demolished in 2011 and are no longer part of the standing building.
- Two round towers and Renaissance arcades around the inner courtyard remain among the older surviving features.
- No opening hours, admission fees or access conditions are confirmed for this castle, so it is worth checking locally before visiting.
