To make a day of it

Haus Overbach stands in Jülich (Kreis Düren), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Haus Overbach is a former moated manor house in the Barmen district of Jülich. Held from the fourteenth century onward by a succession of Rhenish noble families, it now belongs to a religious order that runs a monastery and a school on the site. The present buildings date from the late eighteenth century, replacing the earlier medieval residence, and reflect this long chain of ownership rather than any surviving fortification.

What to know

  • The site is currently used as a monastery and a school, which limits access for outside visitors.
  • The buildings seen today date from the late eighteenth century, not from the medieval period of the original manor.
  • The monument is listed as a Baudenkmal in North Rhine-Westphalia.
  • No opening hours, admission fees or accessibility details are available for tourist visits.
