Laufenburg stands in Langerwehe (Kreis Düren), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Laufenburg stands on a hilltop encircled by the Sührbach stream, in the private woodland between the Langerwehe hamlets of Heistern and Merode. Built in the 12th century as a knight's castle to guard Wenau Abbey, it suffered repeated destruction, most notably during the Battle of Hürtgen Forest in 1944, before being rebuilt and converted into a farm estate with a restaurant. Visitors today see a rubble-stone complex reshaped over the centuries, including a tower capped since 1963 with a Nuremberg-style dome.
