Karlsburg stands in Langerwehe (Kreis Düren), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Recorded dating: 19th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Karlsburg is a nineteenth century garden folly built in the shape of a knight's castle on the wooded Kammerbusch hill west of the Schönthal hamlet. It was erected from 1858 onward for Carl Viktor Schleicher, an industrialist who had grown wealthy through the family needle factory, as the centrepiece of a landscape garden laid out in the fashion of the upper middle class of his time. The complex consisted of a tower-flanked guest house and an adjoining knights' hall, once furnished with paintings, fine embroidery and furniture. Destroyed during the Second World War and largely demolished in the 1970s, it can now be seen as a partly rebuilt ruin set within a public park.
