To make a day of it

Burg Stolberg stands in Stolberg (Städteregion Aachen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Admission is free. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing on a steep limestone outcrop, Burg Stolberg overlooks the old town of Stolberg, which took its name from the castle and grew up around it. Built in the 12th century by the lords of Stalburg, it was destroyed and rebuilt several times before falling into ruin, until the local industrialist Moritz Kraus had it restored from 1888 onward in historicist style and donated it to the town in 1909. Visitors can still make out the medieval remains, the tower, the great hall and the former courtroom, alongside the later additions spread across the site's terraced levels.
