Burg Eschweiler stands in Eschweiler (Städteregion Aachen), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Eschweiler is a former moated castle of which only three round towers and sections of the enclosing wall survive, now standing within the grounds of St. Antonius Hospital in the centre of Eschweiler. Believed to date from the 13th or 14th century, the stronghold was reduced in stages, first around 1800 and then largely demolished in 1967 to make way for the new hospital buildings. What remains, towers and wall fragments, hints at a once extensive fortress once surrounded by a moat fed by a branch of the Inde river. A local legend tells of a ghost said to guard a hidden treasure within its walls.
