Burg Engelsdorf stands in Aldenhoven, by the Merzbach stream that once fed its moat. First recorded in 1080, this former moated house was the seat of the von Engelsdorf family before passing through various owners over the centuries, including the Opfergelt family in the 19th century. The thickness of its walls and the surviving moat still testify to its former defensive strength. Since 1989 a Chilean artist couple has run a studio, a foundry and a woodworking workshop inside it.
