To make a day of it

Burg Zieverich stands in Bergheim (Rhein-Erft-Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Zieverich stands in the Zieverich district of Bergheim, on the site of a former moated stronghold. Founded in the late 13th century by Giselbertus de Ceverich, a follower of the Count of Jülich, it passed through several owners and was later given manor-like extensions. A fire in 1956 destroyed much of the residence, though the round brick corner tower, with its medieval core, stepped roof and rocaille stucco decoration on the upper floor, survived. The rebuilt house kept the original outer walls and window arrangement.

What to know

  • The site was partly destroyed by a fire in 1956 and later rebuilt.
  • The building served as a children's home after a foundation acquired it in 1952.
