To make a day of it

Burg Gleuel stands in Gleuel (Rhein-Erft-Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Burg Gleuel is a former moated manor house, among the oldest in the medieval Kölngau, now part of the town of Hürth. The present two-winged building dates from a 1632 rebuilding of what had originally been a four-winged complex, first recorded in the late ninth century. The surrounding park, laced with branches of the Gleueler Bach, is open to the public, though the building itself is privately occupied and only rarely accessible for concerts or cultural events.

What to know

  • The building itself is privately occupied and not open for public visits.
  • Only the surrounding park, crossed by the Gleueler Bach, is freely accessible.
  • Occasional concerts or cultural events are the only chance to see the interior.
  • No visiting hours or entrance fees exist, as this is a private residence rather than a museum site.
