Burg Bachem stands in Frechen (Rhein-Erft-Kreis), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Bachem stands in the Bachem district of Frechen as a former moated castle, its foundations resting on wooden piles in a manner recalling Venice. Its origins go back to at least the 13th century, with the base of a residential tower dated to around 1250, built from the remains of a Roman water conduit. Destroyed in 1583, it was rebuilt after the Thirty Years' War, when the south wing and the three-arched bridge were restored, followed by the north wing in 1705. The site is now divided into an outer and a main bailey, surrounded by a partly refilled moat, and remains privately owned by the von Fürstenberg family, who use it as a residence.
