Château Maugiron stands in Valfroicourt (Vosges), in the Grand Est region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second quarter of the 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.
In Valfroicourt, Maugiron castle bears the marks of several rebuildings since the early 16th century. Pierre de Maugiron, grand equerry of Lorraine, built the first version, before Charles Georges d'Hoffelize had it rebuilt in 18th century style, just before the Revolution struck. Burned by angry peasants in 1789, the building was rebuilt more modestly the following century, incorporating the charred stones of the old structure. Today one sees a façade split between two eras, with wrought iron balconies on the 18th century side, and a few paneled rooms and fireplaces inside.
