Ce n’est pas un château : il s’agit d’un vestige des fortifications du quartier canonial, l’ensemble formé par la collégiale (aujourd’hui cathédrale), le cloître, la petite église et les maisons des chanoines, actuel musée Pierre-Noël. Le vrai château de la ville se trouvait à l’emplacement de la mairie et n’a laissé aucune trace. La médiathèque Victor-Hugo est définitivement fermée ; les horaires à consulter sont ceux du musée Pierre-Noël.
