To make a day of it

Château du Vieux-Melay stands in Neuvy (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century, 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Neuvy, in the Allier department, Vieux-Melay is a small rural manor dating from the 17th century, set aside once a neo-Renaissance residence was built nearby in 1840 for the estate's owners. Its single-storey main building, its outbuildings arranged at right angles around an enclosed courtyard, and its chapel with a semicircular apse together form a coherent ensemble, listed as a historic monument. Notable features include the carved entrance gate, with pilasters and a curved pediment topped by a flaming urn, and the trompe l'oeil painted decoration inside the chapel.
