What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le château a été bâti par Jean Lallemand, fils de Guillaume Lallemand, receveur général de Normandie, à la fin du 15e siècle. En 1645, Etienne de Chabenat, conseiller et secrétaire du roi, trésorier général de France à Grenoble, acquiert l'édifice et transforme l'ancien manoir fortifié en maison d'agrément. Les couvertures sont refaites en 1646. Le château aurait été la résidence des seigneurs de Savigny. Il se compose d'un corps de logis à un étage et mansardes, accosté de deux ailes, restes probables d'une enceinte carrée. La façade ouest présente des angles garnis de tourelles percées d'embrasures rondes à couleuvrines. La cour carrée était autrefois fermée par un pavillon à pont-levis au-dessus duquel se trouvait une chambre de guet. Ce pavillon a été détruit au début du 19e siècle.
