The gatehouse and north wing date from this first building phase, while later alterations were carried out in the 17th century for Louise de Keroualle, Duchess of Portsmouth, and the south wing was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. The building now houses the town hall along with a space dedicated to the Auld Alliance, the historic bond between Scotland and France.
