What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le fief de l'Islette appartenait à la maison de Maillé depuis 1350. Le château fut construit vers 1530 par le baron de Maillé, qui engagea les ouvriers ayant travaillé sur Azay-le-Rideau. La construction utilisa un bâtiment du 15e siècle, en brique et pierre, sans doute inachevé. L'édifice fut terminé vers 1535 par Charles de Maillé. Le bâtiment principal est flanqué de deux grosses tours cylindriques et d'une aile en retour d'équerre, la construction du 15e siècle. Une tour polygonale d'escalier flanque l'angle nord-est. Le couronnement présente un chemin de ronde avec mâchicoulis. A l'intérieur, un large escalier en vis en pierre relie les étages. Plafonds à solives peintes, lambris également peints. La chapelle est aménagée au rez-de-chaussée de la tour sud-est. Au début du 19e siècle, les sommets des combles des tours d'angle furent tronqués. Les couronnements des lucarnes ont été retirés. A l'est du château se trouve le moulin. Au nord, la porte du parc, accompagnée d'une poterne, est flanquée de deux pavillons et date de 1638.
