To make a day of it

Château de Turly stands in Saint-Michel-de-Volangis (Cher), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, fourth quarter of the 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In the Cher department, at Saint-Michel-de-Volangis, the château de Turly served for centuries as a country residence for the archbishops of Bourges. Rebuilt in 1496 on the order of Archbishop Guillaume de Cambrai, it was substantially reworked at the end of the 17th century, when its moats and drawbridge gave way to a layout opening onto the gardens. Visitors today can see how the remodeled towers of the medieval structure connect with the classical wings framing the main courtyard, within grounds whose garden design kept changing into the 19th century.
