What the French Ministry of Culture records
Château mentionné pour la première fois en 1037. Il est remis aux évêques de Metz et aux ducs de Lorraine en 1171. En 1633, Louis XIII s'empare du château qui redevient "impérial" en 1635. En 1673, le "Grand Condé" prend le château et le fait désarmer et démanteler. En 1705, il est remis en état par le maréchal de Villars. Après son déclassement en 1713, des travaux de réarmement sont à nouveau engagés en 1733 et 1752. Le château est vendu en 1811 et les matériaux récupérés. Après un réarmement en 1825-1841, son déclassement définitif est prononcé.
