To make a day of it

Château de Sansac stands in Beaulieu-sur-Sonnette (Charente), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century, 17th century, 19th century). No visits are on record for this building.

West of Beaulieu-sur-Sonnette, the château de Sansac stands on a spur overlooking the Sonnette river and one of its tributaries. Built around a core dating from the 15th century, it owes its present appearance to Loys Prévost, a comrade in arms of King Francis I and governor of Angoumois in the 16th century, who enlarged it and gave it a rich Renaissance decoration. Two round towers with pointed roofs flank the main building, extended by a wing set at a right angle with an arcaded gallery. The château is privately owned and cannot be visited.
