What the French Ministry of Culture records

Un donjon quadrangulaire fut probablement construit au 12e siècle. En 1434, Guillaume de La Rochefoucauld fait construire l'essentiel du château à la fin du 15e siècle. Vendu à la Révolution, il tombe peu à peu en ruine. Edifice de plan rectangulaire, avec une tour ronde et un chemin de ronde couvert. Une tourelle d'angle en encorbellement et une logette sur consoles animent cette élévation. Côté cour, la façade possède deux tours d'escalier à vis. Une ancienne aile en retour abritait les dépendances. Ce château est un exemple des édifices reconstruits au 15e siècle, constitué d'éléments de fortifications : tour, chemin de ronde, salle de tir, canonnières...
