To make a day of it

Château de Champagne stands in Champagne-Mouton (Charente), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

At the heart of the village of Champagne-Mouton, in the Charente department, stands a castle whose origins go back to the Middle Ages, rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century after the Hundred Years' War. Round towers, remnants of curtain walls and a former gatehouse recall its defensive past, though the moat has long since been filled in. The site saw various uses over time, as the seat of a powerful lordship, a place of internment for Spanish prisoners, and later a property divided among several owners in the 19th century.
