To make a day of it

Château de la Viveyre stands in Souvigny (Allier), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 17th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Souvigny, in the Allier department, the Château de la Viveyre retains the character of a 15th century seigneurial residence, standing alone in the countryside and surrounded by its water filled moat. Two of the original four round towers still stand, fitted with gun loops from the Wars of Religion, while a square gatehouse tower converted into a dovecote marks the entrance to the courtyard. Inside, the west and north wings preserve monumental medieval fireplaces along with 17th and 18th century decoration, including panelling and carved woodwork.
