To make a day of it

Château de Banne stands in Banne (Ardèche), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In the village of Banne, in the Ardèche, a steep path leads up to a rocky platform where the remains of a castle stand, once among the most powerful strongholds of the medieval period. Owned in turn by the Châteauneuf, Joyeuse and Beauvoir du Roure families, the building burned down in 1792 and was later stripped for stone. What remains today are sections of wall, a notable staircase and traces of stables, overlooking the plain of Jalès.
