Le coeur carré du donjon remonte sans doute au 13e siècle. En 1752, le château devient résidence et subit une forte campagne d'aménagement. Les bâtiments s'organisent autour d'une cour centrale de plan irrégulier. Ils ne communiquent entre eux que par cette cour ouverte sur la grotte et se trouvent adossés, dans la partie ouest, à une colline calcaire qui était exploitée comme carrière. Le donjon est équipé, à tous les étages, d'éléments de l'architecture militaire. Un des salons concerve un décor de toiles marouflées original et rare.
