Cheylard d'Aujac stands in Aujac (Gard), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 14th century). Adult admission costs 8 EUR. Its opening hours and prices were verified at the source on August 22, 2026.
Set on a rocky spur in the Cévennes hills of the Gard, this 12th-century fortress overlooks the village of Aujac. Two wings meeting at a right angle, along with a square keep and a stair tower, enclose a courtyard where the remains of a wall-walk and arrow slits can still be seen. Inside, two rooms with wood-beamed ceilings and a small vaulted round chamber in the southwest tower recall the lord's former quarters. A guided tour takes visitors through these ruins and gives a sense of the site's defensive scale.
