Built by Galiot de Genouillac between 1518 and 1535, Assier castle shows how Renaissance style spread well beyond the Loire Valley workshops. Reduced to a single wing after being sold off as a stone quarry in the 18th century, it keeps a striking portal with loggias and pediments, carved with references to its builder's military career. Inside, a vaulted ceremonial staircase and a finely carved marble pillar remain, alongside a small lapidary collection.
