To make a day of it

Château de Castanet stands in Pourcharesses (Lozère), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In the commune of Pourcharesses, in Lozère, the Castanet château now stands on the edge of Lac de Villefort, whose waters nearly submerged it during the construction of the dam. Built from 1572 by Jacques d'Isarn de Villefort, this rectangular building flanked by four towers is an example of Cévennes architecture from the late 16th century. Visitors can still see the gun loops in the towers and traces of a former postern gate leading to the river, along with a fireplace bearing the Isarn family's coat of arms.
