To make a day of it

Château du Roure stands in Prévenchères (Lozère), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 11th century, 15th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Above the Chassezac gorges, the château du Roure stands with a square eleventh-century keep flanked by two wings arranged in a U shape. Built more as a fortified farmhouse than a grand residence, it still bears arrow slits, gun loops and a vaulted entrance hall. The estate stayed in the same family for nearly nine centuries, from 987 until the early twentieth century.
