What the French Ministry of Culture records

La seigneurie du Champ apparaît dans les actes en 1498. Une première campagne de travaux, à la fin du 15e siècle, concerne la tour d'angle dite "donjon". L'ensemble formé par la tour d'escalier et les bâtiments adjacents semble remonter au 16e siècle. Les tourelles de petit diamètre sont certainement plus tardives, marquant un agrandissement qui pourrait remonter au 17e siècle. Au 19e siècle, l'entrée ayant été transférée d'une façade à l'autre, le vestibule actue a été édificé et couvert. La chapelle extérieure est également récente. La masse du château est hérissée de six tours et tourelles. Quatre de ces ouvrages marquent les angles de la construction. Un autre divise en deux la plus grande façade. Le sixième, à l'intérieur, abrite l'escalier. La plus ancienne de ces tours, le "donjon", sert d'appui à l'aile située à droite de la terrasse d'entrée. Le donjon est le seul à présenter des éléments défensifs (chemin de ronde).
