The Château du Champ stands on a rocky spur encircled by the Altier river, about two kilometres from the village of Altier in Lozère. Built from the late 13th century onward by the Altier family, it was extended in the 16th century with a wing featuring mullioned windows, then altered over later centuries. A private property that has remained in the same family for nearly seven hundred years, it can be seen from the surrounding paths but is not open to visitors.
