Set on a rocky spur above the upper valley of the Lot river, the Tournel castle is a feudal ruin that served, until the early 14th century, as the seat of one of the eight baronies of Gévaudan. Towers and a 13th century keep still stand, remnants of a site once considered impregnable before its destruction during the Wars of Religion. An interpretive trail now runs along the ruins, offering views of Mont Lozère from the heights of the site.
