To make a day of it

Château du Roc stands in Fons (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 16th century, 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Fons, in the Lot department, the château du Roc was built from 1570 onwards by Antoine de Prudhomme, whose family had held the seigneury since the late 15th century. The Wars of Religion and later the Revolution left lasting marks on the building: one tower burned in 1791, machicolations dismantled, two towers razed in 1794. The square main building, flanked by towers rebuilt after this damage, stands alongside a park laid out in the 19th century by Colonel de Cornély, with its ponds and nymphaeum.
