In the village of Auzat-la-Combelle, in the Puy-de-Dôme region, the ruins of Cocu castle still show round towers and sections of their medieval perimeter wall. Built in the 13th century, the castle was inhabited until around 1840, which explains why its ruined state is comparatively recent. Visitors come for the defensive architecture, originally covered in rendering according to research by Nicolas Mengus, and for the atmosphere of abandonment. The site remains privately owned.
