Forteresse de Largoët stands in Elven (Morbihan), in the Bretagne region of France. What the French Ministry of Culture records

La construction de la forteresse de Largoët fut entreprise aux 12e et 14e siècles par la famille de Malestroit, puis de Château-Giron. Le château passa aux Rieux en 1463. Pendant la guerre de succession de Bretagne, l'édifice fut incendié (1487). Sa reconstruction commenca dès 1491. Propriété du surintendant Nicolas Fouquet en 1656, celui-ci fit dresser un état des lieux qui s'avéra alarmant, mentionnant de nombreuses parties ruinées. En 1860 Prosper Mérimée, inspecteur des Monuments Historiques, estima ces ruines dangereuses. En 1905, Jobbé-Duval, architecte rennais, dirigea des travaux de restauration de la tour ronde. Le château se constitue aujourd'hui des ruines des deux corps de logis (nord et sud) et du châtelet, d'une tour ronde nord-ouest à trois étages et d'un donjon de plan octogonal massif irrégulier, haut de 50 mètres, comprenant cinq étages.
