To make a day of it

Château de Rochefort-en-Terre stands in Rochefort-en-Terre (Morbihan), in the Bretagne region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 20th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

In Rochefort-en-Terre, a rocky spur carries the remains of a medieval stronghold alongside a neo-Gothic manor built in the early twentieth century by the American painter Alfred Klots on the former outbuildings. The site brings together two periods: the stretches of ramparts and the elongated pentagonal layout dating back to the lords of Rochefort and later the Rieux family, and the towers, dormer windows and chapel brought in from another château to shape an artist's residence. The park now houses a museum devoted to imaginative arts, in keeping with the site's atmosphere and legends.
