The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 14th century, 17th century, second half of the 19th century). Near the forest of Paimpont, in the commune of Concoret, Comper castle stands on a defensive site built around a large lake. The current structures date mostly from the late 14th century, remnants of a fortress reshaped over time and held successively by several noble Breton families, including the Laval and Rieux lines. The site bears the marks of a turbulent past, having been dismantled on the order of King Henri IV and later burned during the French Revolution.
