The ruins of the château de Joyeuse Garde stand at the hamlet of Goelforest, in the commune of La Forest-Landerneau. Local tradition links this site, said to date back to the 6th century, to the Arthurian stronghold of Lancelot du Lac, reportedly renamed from Douloureuse Garde to Joyeuse Garde. Visitors can still make out the outline of a walled enclosure flanked by towers and traces of a moat, the only remains of a fortress dismantled after its capture by the forces of Charles de Blois in 1342.
