It was built by François de Malestroit, on land raised to a seigneury as early as the 12th century and later to a barony by Henri II in 1533. Notable features include a stair turret with a two-leaf door and carved wooden panels showing male and female profiles set among foliage medallions. The estate today combines the château with a restored manor house, an avenue of magnolias, a palm grove and a former oyster park.
