To make a day of it

Schloss Seifersdorf stands in Wachau (Landkreis Bautzen), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 16th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Seifersdorf stands in Wachau, in the Landkreis Bautzen, in Saxony, on a site first occupied in the Middle Ages by a moated fortified residence. Built around 1530 for the von Haugwitz family, the building underwent a major transformation between 1818 and 1822, when architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel gave it its present neo-Gothic appearance. The eastern façade, with its crenellated courtyard flanked by turrets, recalls a medieval stronghold, while the western façade, with its iron balcony and square tower, echoes English country houses of the 19th century. The estate also includes an English-style landscape park, a stone bridge and the outbuildings of the former manor.

What to know

  • The Schloss is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Saxony, together with the wider estate (park, bridge, manor house and outbuildings).
  • No opening hours, admission fees or visit duration could be confirmed, so it is worth checking in advance.
  • The landscape park surrounding the Schloss was redesigned in the English style during the 19th-century renovation.
  • The site also includes a neighbouring manor house dating from 1750, which is now privately owned.
