Schloss Oberlichtenau stands in Pulsnitz, in Saxony, set within a park originally laid out in French formal style before part of it was transformed into an English landscape garden. Built in the 18th century for Count Christian Gottlieb von Holtzendorff, the baroque building later passed to the powerful Saxon prime minister Heinrich von Brühl, who had its festival hall redesigned by architect Johann Christoph Knöffel. Ravaged by Prussian troops in 1758, rebuilt afterwards, and long neglected under a succession of owners, the schloss has served many different purposes over the centuries before its recent restoration. Today the house and its grounds can be visited, with the park remaining freely accessible.
