Schloss Lichtenwalde stands above the Zschopau valley, on the site of a medieval fortress of which nothing remains visible today. Rebuilt in the early 20th century following a fire that destroyed its roof and upper floor, the castle now displays a restored baroque interior with some eclectic additions. It is surrounded by a baroque park known for its water features, and is grouped together with Schloss Augustusburg and Burg Scharfenstein as one of the region's three notable historic sites.
